Louis Vuitton Sends a Maximalist Message at Paris Fashion Week

Featuring a trunk-inspired runway and tricked-out looks.

In the Cour Carrée du Louvre, a massive assemblage inspired by Louis Vuitton’s signature trunks made up the runway. With ELLE cover star Lisa, Zendaya, Cate Blanchett, and the Haim sisters seated front row, it was clear that a celebration of house heritage was on tap for spring 2025.

Artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière drew on a favored 18th-century silhouette: the show opened with strong-shouldered, doublet-like jackets worn with biker-style shorts or breeches that fastened below the knee. As the collection progressed, he played with geometry and asymmetry—for example, a trapezoidal minidress anchored by a single pant leg—and experimented with color blocking and scarf dressing. Also on offer: ruffled polo dresses in wild ’80s patterns and minidresses with 3-D embellishments.

The accessories approach was a maximalist one as well. Many of the looks were shown with oversized necklaces, piled on in the too-much-is-never-enough spirit, or paired with shoes that boasted feather embellishments. And, of course, handbags were a focus, with many of the models doubling up. What a way to close out Fashion Month.
