The 3 Best New Cheeses at ALDI Right Now, According to a Cheese Expert

When we celebrate Thanksgiving with my stepmother-in-law’s family, I’m always asked to bring the cheese appetizer since I’ve written a few books on the subject.

If you’re bringing a cheese plate to Thanksgiving or any other gathering, there are three stellar Emporium Selection cheeses at ALDI right now perfect for any cheese or charcuterie board: truffle goat’s milk cheese, white Stilton with cranberries, and goat’s milk Brie.

1. Emporium Selection Goat’s Milk Cheese With Truffles

I adore any truffle-flavored cheese, and the new Emporium Selection Goat’s Milk Cheese With Truffles is fantastic. A four-ounce log of fresh goat cheese costs $4.29, and as soon as you open it, you get a slight whiff of truffle. When you take a bite, you first taste the creamy, tart goat’s milk, and then you get an earthy hit of umami.

This cheese is made for spreading on crackers, but I cook with it, too. It makes for gourmet-quality stuffed chicken breasts with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Speaking of mushrooms, this cheese would be perfect for stuffing ‘shrooms, too.

2. Emporium Selection White Stilton With Cranberries

The White Stilton with Cranberries, which costs $4.39 for a five-ounce wedge, is my family’s holiday favorite. The last time I bought this cheese, I didn’t get any because my husband ate the whole thing. (His “Hot Dad Summer” treat is Triscuits with cheese … which he now eats all year long.)

This Stilton is a creamy, slightly crumbly cheese rich with sweet-tart cranberries. The cheese itself tastes sweet because of the sugar-coated dried cranberries. It’s absolutely perfect for the holidays—add it to a festive salad or charcuterie board, especially with some extra dried cranberries or cranberry jam.

3. Emporium Selection Goat’s Milk Brie

The new Goat’s Milk Brie ($4.29 for a seven-ounce wheel), is the perfect centerpiece of a holiday cheese board. It’s got a lovely bloomy rind, and the cheese inside is soft and rich. It’s absolutely perfect for baked brie anything—inside puff pastry, on sourdough bread, or with jam.

I am definitely going to use it in my friend Tamara’s baked brie recipe. It’s so easy. Place the brie in a baking dish (ceramic or glass works best), then top with a few handfuls of shelled pistachios. Bake for eight to 10 minutes at 400°F, then add a handful or two of fresh raspberries and bake for another two minutes. The brie gets all gooey, and the nuts and berries meld into it. It’s a glorious cheese appetizer.
